Don’t hate me, but I’m writing this from a long wooden table in the courtyard of a stone farmhouse in Andillac. One pot of coffee down and I’m enjoying the (slightly anxious!) stillness that is unique to the hours before a “big thing” happens.
Today the guests start to arrive for a Food and Photography retreat. One of those pinch me jobs that make up for all the ones that involve lugging props and gear into my car in the pouring rain at dawn.
I’m here with
to explore creativity with the guests in the most delicious of ways, through local produce, rustic dishes and imperfectly perfect planning. There will be that happy triumvirate of Cheese, bread and wine plus all the local fruit and veg of the area. We’re being hosted by Jack and Margaret in Manoir Mouret which sits in the village of Andillac. A film set of a place, full of vineyards, poplar trees, wooden shutters and tempting Brocante shops. The perfect setting to teach guests to slow down, notice the details and really taste the food. Of course, there will be ‘those’ shots of ripe tomatoes fresh from the market but they’ll also be snaps of the messy remains of a meal happily shared, wine being poured and nibbled lettuces straight from the veg patch. This is not about perfection, it’s about presence.
I can’t wait to meet everyone, see what unfolds and share some behind-the-scenes bits with you as we go.
Thanks for reading LensSoup, and have a great week.
