Hello!

I’m Kirstie - a Food Photographer for over a decade, and the co-founder of TheFoodStudio.uk, a creative collaboration of Photographers, Recipe Writers, Food Stylists, Videographers and Retouchers.

I live in the Cotswolds where I have my own photography studio, complete with a small dog who lives in hope of being allowed to clean the floor after some of the messier shoots.

In a previous life I lived in North London, working long hours in the Film and TV industry until I had my head turned by reading too many beautiful cookbooks, and the notion that there could be a way of earning my living surrounded by food and the people who love it. I now have the absolute joy of shooting regularly for newspapers, magazines, cookbooks, ad campaigns, food packaging, and restaurants. This Substack will be a space where I will give you a window into all of that, and help you to forge your own path in this delicious world.

Lens Soup is also here to help you upskill - I wanted to create a space where people who belong in that rather popular bit of a Venn diagram, where Food and Photography cross, gather to dig a little deeper into how to make the food on their plates look as beautiful in a photograph as they taste on their tongue. It is also a place to share what’s currently inspiring me in the food arena by recommending podcasts I’ve listened to, articles I’ve read, images that have caught my eye, cookbooks old and new, and particular recipes that I’ve earmarked to make and shoot.
